Terry is still seeking Specialists Gordish and Johnston

I am “re-running” a post of mine from 03/10/15, because I’m thinking that in the past 5+ years maybe some 20th PMU Veterans from the 1968-69 time frame have joined this blog that might remember SP5 Gordish and SP4 Johnston with the Phu Loi Detachment. Here is that post:

“I was never a member of the 20th PMU, but was/am a big fan of the unit! I was the Sanitarian for the 1st Cavalry Division from 11/68-11/69. I was the first person to occupy that position, when each of the divisions in VN were assigned a sanitarian. One of the problems that I had was that I was never authorized any personnel. Somehow, the 20th PMU assigned two fine individuals to help me out! Their names were SP5 Gordish and Sp4 Ernie Johnston. I never knew Gordish’s first name. He went by the nickname “Gordy.” They performed all sorts of PM activities, just like they were my own men. They were outstanding soldiers! I would like to contact them if anyone happens to have kept in touch with them over the years. I also have some photos of them that I would be glad to email to you. My email is terryamccarl@gmail.com. Thanks! Terry A. McCarl, 1LT, MSC 11/68-11/69.”

I believe that Gordish’s tour was 05/68- 05/69 and Johnston’s was 11/68-11/69. If I could determine their full names with possibly middle initials, I would have a fighting chance of locating and contacting them.

Also, I suspect they both were in Preventive Medicine training at Ft. Sam Houston sometime in 67 or 68, so if anyone happens to have a roster from those courses, their names may be on it.

Please contact me if you can help me out. terryamccarl@gmail.com. Thanks!
